By Air
The nearest airport to Nainital is the Pantnagar Airport. It is situated at a distance of 70 km from the main town of Nainital and is approximately a 2-hour drive from the city. Direct flights to Pantnagar Airport are only available from New Delhi, from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). You have to book a bus or a car from the airport to take you to Nainital.
By Road
Nainital is very easily accessible by road, especially from Delhi, which is the closest access point. You can take a bus or a car or a private taxi from Delhi, or Kathgodam (which is much closer to the town) to take you to Nainital. The distance between the two places is approximately 235 km, which takes 7-8 hours to traverse.
The most convenient, clean and safe route between Delhi and Nainital is via Ghaziabad, then Moradabad, Rampur, Suar, Bazpur after which you can make your way to Kaladhungi, the stop right before Nainital.
By Train
The nearest railway station to Nainital is Kathgodam, situated at a distance of 23 Kilometres. There are several direct trains which run daily from major cities like Kolkata, New Delhi, Lucknow, Agra to Kathgodam. If you want to reach in a shorter time, you can avail the Ranikhet Express from New Delhi, which reaches Kathgodam on an overnight journey. There are prompt bus and taxi services available from Kathgodam to Nainital.
